ANKARA: The Turkey’s Ministry of Defense has announced that a ballistic missile reportedly launched from Iran was successfully intercepted by NATO’s missile defense system as it approached Turkish territory.
The Ministry of Defense confirmed that the missile was neutralized before it could pose any direct threat to national security. The ministry focused on that all necessary and decisive measures are being implemented to safeguard Turkish territory and ensure the protection of its population against potential risks.
“The defense of our homeland remains our top priority,” the statement read. “We are taking all appropriate steps to immediately counter any form of threat and maintain national security.”
In this regard Turkish authorities further mentioned that the interception was carried out as part of NATO’s integrated missile defense system, which aims to protect not only Turkey but also allied nations from emerging threats.
A NATO spokesperson also confirmed the incident, stating that the alliance remains fully committed to the defense and security of all its member states. “We continue to monitor the situation closely and stand ready to take swift and necessary action in response to any threat,” the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, officials have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information. Citizens have been advised to rely solely on official sources for updates and guidance regarding the situation.
