TTP Video Backing Mahrang Raises Fresh Questions Over BYC-TTP Nexus

QUETTA: The outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has released a video statement commenting on the imprisonment of Mahrang Baloch (Langove), a development that has drawn renewed attention to narratives surrounding terrorism and unrest in Balochistan province.

The video features a man identified by the TTP as Mufti Tariq Mehsud, who discusses Mahrang Langove’s conviction and propagating against state institutions.

The group’s statement reflects its own views and has not been independently verified.

Mahrang Langove, leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), was recently sentenced to life imprisonment by an anti-terrorism court in a case related to the killing of a Frontier Corps (FC) soldier during violent protests.

Pakistani authorities have repeatedly accused the BYC of supporting or facilitating banned militant organisations, including the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).

Authorities have also linked some individuals previously described by activists as forcibly disappeared persons and ended up being active members of the BLA after they were killed in security operations and terrorist attacks.

Mahrang Langove and BYC supporters were also involved in storming Quetta’s Civil Hospital following the March 2025 train hijacking and attempting to snatch the bodies of militants killed during the security operation.

The TTP’s latest statement comes as Pakistan continues to face insurgent violence in both Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Islamabad has long accused militant groups of coordinating efforts to destabilise the country, while security agencies have intensified operations against armed organisations.

Reaction on social media to Mahrang Baloch’s sentence remained divided.

One X user, Kashif, wrote: “These dirty characters should be given the death penalty, not life imprisonment. Most of the missing persons for whom she used to raise her voice are involved in attacks against the army.”

Another user, Arslan Akbar, wrote: “Did she also speak about all the missing boys who ended up being active terrorists with the BLA? That also needs to be uncovered.”
