QUETTA: The government is considering the establishment of a faceless court in Balochistan to fight terrorism.
The decision has been taken in response to the persistently low conviction rate hindering counterterrorism efforts in Balochistan.
As per details, a significant briefing was given by military officials on the security situation in Balochistan and highlighted on ongoing counterterrorism operations, Indian interference, and the serious issue of lack of convictions.
It was told the meeting that despite the arrest of 947 suspected terrorists in 2024, only 10 have been convicted — a figure that has raised serious concerns among military officials.
They made it clear that there is evidence of Indian involvement in these acts of terrorism. The banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) is believed to have between 1,500 to 2,000 active militants in the region.
According to the officials, 282 terrorists were killed and 947 were arrested in 1,023 operations carried out in 2024. However, only 10 of those arrested received convictions. In 2025 so far, 232 terrorists have been killed in 517 operations, while 59 security personnel have been martyred.
It was noted in the briefing that most of the arrested terrorists escape punishment due to weaknesses in the legal system. To address this issue, legislation is being considered for the establishment of faceless courts.
Military officials said that there are no “no-go” areas in Balochistan and that the state’s writ is established throughout the province. The briefing revealed that there has been an 89% increase in terrorist incidents in 2025 compared to 2024. The main reason for this surge is that terrorists are now targeting soft targets instead of hard targets to avoid severe retaliatory action.
It was further disclosed that on the night of May 9 and 10, a total of 33 terrorist attacks were attempted in Balochistan, all of which were thwarted by security forces.
