List of books provided to Imran Khan in jail

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan was provided with a selection of books he had requested, during a court hearing in Rawalpindi on Thursday. The hearing pertained to the November 26 protest case registered against his sister, Aleema Khan.

While the legal proceedings focused on the case involving Aleema Khan, a separate submission was made to fulfill the reading request of the incarcerated former premier. The books, which were formally submitted to the court for delivery, included notable works such as India: A 5,000-Year History of the Subcontinent, The Sun Must Set, and Shattered Lands.

The provision of these specific titles has drawn public attention, particularly the choice of India: A 5,000-Year History of the Subcontinent, a comprehensive historical volume. The other two books are also significant; The Sun Must Set is a recent memoir by a former British diplomat offering a critical view of Pakistan’s political history, while Shattered Lands focuses on the turmoil and geopolitical shifts in the Middle East following the Arab Spring.

The court approved the delivery of the books as part of the standard process for meeting the permissible requests of detainees. Imran Khan has been incarcerated in Adiala Jail since last August following his conviction in multiple cases. Throughout his detention, his legal team has periodically relayed his requests for reading materials, which are subject to judicial and jail administration approval.

This development offers a brief glimpse into the routine aspects of Khan’s confinement, even as the primary legal proceeding of the day involved his sister’s separate case. The hearing for Aleema Khan was adjourned, with a future date to be set for further proceedings.
