Balochistan Assembly Passes Land Revenue Amendment Bill

QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly has approved the Balochistan Land Revenue Amendment Bill 2025.

Alongside this, the audit report regarding the construction of the Karachi Bus Terminal at Hazarganji was also tabled in the house.

Additionally, the audit report of the Quetta Development Authority for the fiscal years 2016 to 2018 was presented.

The reports were laid before the house by the Provincial Finance Minister, Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, and subsequently referred to the Public Accounts Committee for review.

During the session, Member of Provincial Assembly Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman Baloch raised a point of order, demanding that the presence of relevant secretaries in assembly sessions be ensured.

In response, the Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly assured that he would write to the Chief Secretary, emphasizing that the secretary of any department under discussion must be present in the house.

Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman Baloch further highlighted that trawler mafias are active in the waters of Gwadar, negatively impacting the livelihood of local fishermen.

He alleged that the Fisheries Department itself is involved in extortion practices.

It is worth-mentioning that fishermen in Gwadar have raised serious concerns over their livelihood being endangered due to the increasing presence of trawler mafias in the Arabian Sea.

According to local representatives, these illegal trawlers are depleting fish resources, leaving small-scale fishermen struggling to sustain their daily income.

The issue was highlighted in the Balochistan Assembly, where lawmakers stressed that the activity of trawler groups has become a direct threat to the economic survival of the coastal community.

Local fishermen have also accused the Fisheries Department of negligence and alleged involvement in extortion practices.

They appealed to the provincial government to take immediate steps to curb illegal trawling and to safeguard the rights of the indigenous fishing community.
