LAHORE: The Lahore–Sialkot Motorway (M-3) has been closed due to extremely dense fog, severely disrupting road travel and raising safety concerns for motorists. In this regard, as per the spokesperson for the Motorways Central Region, the motorway was shut after visibility dropped to unsafe levels in several sections.
The spokesperson focused on that fog-related accidents often occur due to lane violations, speeding, and failure to maintain safe distances between vehicles, making travel highly risky under such conditions.
In this sense, motorists have been strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel during foggy conditions and to strictly observe lane discipline if travel is unavoidable.
Furthermore, the Motorway Police also issued a set of safety guidelines for drivers. These include the mandatory use of fog lights, reducing speed, maintaining a safe following distance, and avoiding sudden lane changes.
So far, drivers were further advised to remain alert and patient while driving in low-visibility conditions. In case of confusion or emergency, travelers have been encouraged to contact the Motorway Police helpline at 130 for assistance and real-time updates.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a fog advisory for large parts of Punjab. In such a scenario, unusually dense fog has enveloped the province’s plains, including Lahore and its surrounding districts.
The authority warned that visibility in many areas has dropped significantly, increasing the risk of road accidents. As a result, several major highways and motorways across Punjab have been either partially or completely closed.
The PDMA urged citizens to stay informed through official channels and avoid travel during early morning and late-night hours when fog is at its densest.
