KHOAT: Tragedy struck the medical community in Kohat on Sunday, as a young lady doctor was shot dead by unidentified assailants while returning home from her duties at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Dr. Mehwish. According to the President of the Young Doctors Association (YDA) Kohat, Dr. Mehwish had just completed her evening shift and was heading home in a rickshaw. As her vehicle passed near the hospital, armed men opened fire on her, killing her on the spot.

The motive behind the targeted killing remains unknown, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. Police have launched an investigation and are searching for the attackers who managed to flee the scene.

The shocking incident has sent waves of grief and anger through the medical fraternity. The YDA Kohat has pointed to a complete failure of security, stating that adequate protection is not being provided to medical staff who work round-the-clock to serve the community. They termed the killing a matter of “serious concern.”

In protest against the murder and the lack of security for healthcare professionals, the Young Doctors have announced an immediate strike. All routine medical services in government hospitals across Kohat have been suspended from today. Furthermore, the association has warned that if their demands for security are not met, the strike will be escalated to the provincial level in the next phase.
