KUJ condemns KP CM’s remarks on security forces

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Union of Journalists (KUJ) strongly condemned the recent remarks made by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, calling them irresponsible and divisive.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the KUJ said that dragging the sacrifices of martyrs into political disputes is “deeply regrettable and condemnable.”

“The blood of martyrs and the sanctity of places of worship must never be questioned,” the union stated, adding that such comments fuel anger and hatred against national institutions.

The KUJ urged the chief minister to withdraw his “irresponsible” remarks and show respect for those who laid down their lives in the fight against terrorism.

“Using politics to target national security institutions goes against the country’s interests,” the statement said. “The sacrifices of our armed forces in the war against terror are unforgettable.”

The journalists’ body stressed that respect for martyrs is a moral and national duty, and called for unity instead of division.

“Such statements should unite the nation, not divide it,” the KUJ added. “National security and public solidarity remain our top priority.”

Earleir today, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also strongly condemned CM Sohail Afridi’s remarks that criticised security forces, calling them “irresponsible and damaging to national morale.”

In a statement, the governor said he “condemns any rhetoric that seeks to undermine the honour and sacrifice of the armed forces.” He said the “brave sons of our soil lay down their lives to protect the province,” and warned that “questioning their intent in sensational terms only damages morale and public safety.”
