KP reports 605 terror attacks in 8 months

PESHAWAR: A Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) report said militants carried out 605 terrorist incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa  (KP) during the first eight months of the year, killing 138 civilians and injuring 352.

The report said terrorists killed 79 police personnel and wounded 130 others in attacks and encounters. Security forces named 351 suspects, killed 32 in operations and arrested five.

Militancy surged in August, when terrorists staged 129 attacks that killed 17 civilians and injured 51. They also killed 13 police officials and wounded 46.

Bannu suffered the worst violence in August with 42 incidents. North Waziristan followed with 15, South Waziristan with 14, Dir with 11, and Dera Ismail Khan and Kurram with eight each.

The CTD confirmed security forces killed eight terrorists in encounters during the month.
