KP Prepares Two Budgets as CM Awaits PTI Leadership Nod

PHC stops authorities from arresting CM Sohail Afridi in any case

PESHAWAR :  The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa KP government has prepared two separate budgets for the upcoming fiscal year 2026-27, but no orders have yet been received from Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to present either proposal to the Finance Department, officials confirmed.

According to KP government sources, the Finance Department has drafted a full annual budget exceeding Rs 2,200 billion, alongside a shorter three-month interim budget valued at over Rs 300 billion. The full budget allocates more than Rs 500 billion for the Annual Development Program (ADP), while the quarterly version would only cover ongoing and non-development expenditures, with no funds released for new development projects during that period.

The uncertainty over which budget will move forward comes amid political calculations. Barrister Salman Akram Raja, Secretary General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stated yesterday that the provincial government will only pass a three-month budget until a formal meeting is held with PTI founder Imran Khan. “The final budget will not be presented until meeting with founder PTI,” Raja declared, signaling that the full budget is on hold pending party leadership approval.

KP Government officials reiterated that Chief Minister Afridi has yet to issue formal directives regarding the three-month budget proposal. Until such orders are received, the Finance Department remains in a holding pattern, with both fiscal plans ready for implementation depending on political developments.

The move reflects growing tensions within the provincial administration as it navigates both fiscal responsibilities and internal party dynamics ahead of the new fiscal year.
