PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police have been equipped with advanced US-style long-range weapon systems to enhance operational capability in the fight against terrorism.
KP Police chief Zulfiqar Hameed formally handed over the new equipment, including modern thermal sights, binoculars, heavy machine guns, and anti-drone guns, during a ceremony held at the Central Police Office in Peshawar.
According to the police spokesperson, the force has received 147 modern binoculars, 363 thermal sights, 10 heavy machine guns, and 4 anti-drone guns. The anti-drone weapons have been assigned to police units in Waziristan, Bannu, and Bajaur, regions frequently facing security challenges.
IGP Zulfiqar Hameed said the initiative is part of a broader plan to modernize the police with state-of-the-art technology. “These advanced tools will significantly improve night-time surveillance. With thermal sights, vehicles can be identified from as far as four kilometers away,” he noted.
He added that the move will strengthen the police in their ongoing war against terrorism, ensuring better monitoring, precision, and response capability in high-risk areas.
Earlier last month, the Khyber Pakhtukhwa (KP) Police have established a specialised Sniper Squad equipped with advanced weapons and modern training.
The Central Police Office (CPO) Peshawar stated that the new squad will operate in mountainous valleys, border regions, and southern districts as part of ongoing anti-terror operations.
Each unit includes 10 highly trained personnel capable of engaging hidden or long-distance targets with precision.
