Khawarij drone attack injures 12 civilians in South Waziristan

Taliban set fire to Torkham market in Afghanistan, blaming Pakistan

SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: In a significant escalation of violence targeting civilians, suspected members of Fitna al-Khawarij carried out their second attack in South Waziristan within a matter of hours, injuring at least 12 people, including women and children. The latest incident occurred in the Azam Warsak area, where, according to official and local sources, the militants used a quadcopter to strike the home of a civilian.

This assault follows similar attacks on civilian populations in Miran Shah and Wana, signaling a dangerous new tactic by the group. The Azam Warsak attack specifically targeted a single family, leaving 12 members injured. The use of a quadcopter for the strike indicates an evolution in the militant group’s operational capabilities, allowing them to bypass ground defenses and directly target populated areas.

Security officials and local residents have confirmed that the attack was the handiwork of the Khawarij. Witnesses on the ground stated that the intent was clearly to inflict maximum casualties on unarmed civilians, aiming to “spread fear and panic” throughout the region.

Immediately following the attack, officials reported that “malign elements” launched a coordinated campaign on social media attempting to falsely attribute the civilian casualties to Pakistani security forces. Authorities have categorically denied these allegations, stating that the reality is the opposite: security forces are engaged in operations to eliminate these very threats and protect the populace.

“The Fitna al-Khawarij is deliberately targeting innocent civilians to create a rift of distrust and chaos between the state and its people,” a security official stated. “Following their failure on the battlefield, they are resorting to desperate tactics, including targeting civilians and then using misleading propaganda to defame state institutions.”

The public has been urged to remain vigilant against unverified news and propaganda on social media. The recent wave of attacks highlights the evolving security challenges in the region as militant groups attempt to destabilize the area by targeting civilians and waging an information war against the state.
