Kazakhstan President to Arrive in Pakistan Today for First State Visit

ISLAMABAD: Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will arrive Pakistan today to explore cooperation in trade, regional connectivity, logistics and other sectors, Pakistan’s foreign office confirmed.

The visit will mark Tokayev’s first state visit to Pakistan.

Tokayev will arrive on Feb. 3 and remain in the country until Feb. 4. He will lead a high-level delegation that includes senior cabinet ministers and top government officials, the foreign office said.

During the visit, Tokayev will meet President Asif Ali Zardari and hold talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He will also address the Pakistan-Kazakhstan Business Forum.

The foreign office said the visit will allow both sides to review bilateral relations and identify new areas of cooperation. The discussions will focus on trade, logistics, regional connectivity and people-to-people contacts.

Both countries will also explore cooperation at regional and international forums, the statement said.

The foreign office said the visit reflects growing ties between Pakistan and Kazakhstan and their shared commitment to regional peace and development.

Pakistan and Kazakhstan share historical and cultural links rooted in their Islamic heritage. Pakistan also offers landlocked Central Asian states access to southern seaports for global trade.

Pakistan was among the first countries to recognize Kazakhstan after its independence in December 1991. The two countries established diplomatic relations in February 1992.

In recent years, officials from both sides have held regular meetings on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organization gatherings and other international forums.

Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Murat Nurtleu visited Pakistan in September 2025 to discuss economic and trade cooperation.

Islamabad and Astana maintain engagement through three main platforms. These include Bilateral Political Consultations, the Intergovernmental Joint Commission, and the Joint Business Council.

According to Kazakhstan’s government, bilateral trade reached $53.7 million in 2024.

Pakistan exports citrus fruits, pharmaceuticals, garments, soap and sports goods to Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan exports onions, garlic, pulses, cereals, seeds and oil-bearing crops to Pakistan.
