Karoline Leavitt: Trump to decide on Iran talks within two weeks

WASHINGTON:  White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has said that U.S. President Donald Trump will decide within the next two weeks whether or not to initiate talks with Iran.

Karoline Leavitt was talking to media persons during a weekly media briefing, She emphasized that President Trump has made it clear that Iran will not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.

She further stated that the U.S. had given Iran a 60-day window for negotiations, but Israel attacked Iran on the 61st day, implying rising regional tensions.

After addressing domestic matters, Leavitt turned to the Middle East crisis, acknowledging growing speculation over whether the United States will get involved in the conflict.

She then read a direct message from President Trump, saying:

“Based on whether there is a real possibility of negotiations with Iran in the near future, I will make a decision within the next two weeks about whether we move forward or not.”

She confirmed that communication with Iran is ongoing, but did not elaborate on why the President believes there is still a “significant possibility” for talks.

Regarding China’s alleged role in the conflict, Leavitt stated that there is no evidence of Chinese military involvement in the Iran war. She also noted that the outcome of tomorrow’s meeting between Iranian officials and the European Union will be closely monitored.
