Karachi Governor Assures Support for Federal Package, Condemns Anti-Pakistan Rhetoric Abroad

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori said he would play a proactive role in ensuring the successful implementation of a proposed federal development package for Karachi, following detailed consultations with the leadership of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

In this regard, Governor Tessori said his meeting with MQM leaders focused on the city’s long-standing civic and development challenges, as well as discussions on a comprehensive federal package aimed at addressing Karachi’s infrastructure and governance issues.

He assured that he would use all available platforms to advocate for Karachi’s rights and development at the federal level.

The governor strongly condemned what he described as “provocative and hateful statements” allegedly made by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters in London regarding the country’s military leadership.

He alleged that overseas PTI elements were consistently spreading hostility against Pakistan.

In this sense, Governor Tessori said that after failing to gain political mileage from the events of May 9, PTI had resorted to statements that, in his view, bordered on incitement and could be categorized as encouraging extremism and unrest among overseas Pakistanis.

He urged the British government to conduct an immediate inquiry into the matter and determine who was using UK soil for propaganda against Pakistan. He focused on the fact that the United Kingdom should ensure its territory is not used for activities that undermine Pakistan’s stability and interests.

The governor also appealed to overseas Pakistanis to keep their children away from hateful and inflammatory activities and not to become part of what he termed as misleading propaganda.

Meanwhile, Tessori said PTI’s narrative had “lost relevance” and that the party was acting out of frustration. He added that such actions were widely condemnable.

He also welcomed the federal government’s recent announcement regarding missing persons, calling it a positive and encouraging step. However, Dr. Siddiqui urged PTI to move beyond personality-centric politics and demonstrate patriotism through constructive actions.

He said MQM’s participation in the federal government was conditional upon the implementation of Article 140-A of the Constitution and the provision of special development packages for Karachi and Hyderabad.
