JUI leader says people await Maulana call, hails him as “most popular leader”

JUI-F Bans Workers' Eid Visits to Fazlur Rehman Citing Security Risks

LORALAI: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) provincial leader Senator Maulana Abdul Wase declared on Monday that the current government has “failed” and will not complete its term, asserting that the public is ready to heed Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s call for street protests.

Speaking at a reception in Loralai, Wase claimed the Quetta local body elections, originally set for December 28, were postponed via a court stay obtained by parties facing “clear defeat.” He asserted the JUI was poised for a “clean sweep” and would contest fully whenever polls are rescheduled.

The senator reiterated his party’s commitment to democratic and constitutional struggle, stating, “We do not believe in coming to power by force of guns.” He also launched a sharp critique of the government’s economic policies, strongly opposing the planned privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for 135 billion rupees, framing it as a failure of governance.

Wase further emphasized that the “interference of the establishment in political matters is now unacceptable,” arguing that only political leaders should steer politics. He hailed Maulana Fazlur Rehman as the country’s “most popular leader,” whose indispensability was shown by the Sindh Governor conferring an honorary PhD upon him.

In a notable shift, the JUI leader welcomed recent political contacts, including with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stating the opposition should unite. He called for the “implementation” of the February 8, 2024 general election results, implying they were not accepted by his party. “The doors of dialogue are not closed in politics,” he concluded, leaving room for potential political negotiations.

Meanwhile a major investigation has been launched into allegations that admissions to medical and other professional colleges in Balochistan were secured using fake mark sheets and certificates over the last four years.

The Balochistan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BBISE) has constituted a special committee on the orders of the Balochistan High Court to probe the scandal. The committee will scrutinize records from 2021 to 2025.
