QUETTA: A prominent leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) and former provincial minister, Maulvi Muhammad Sarwar Musakhel, has been arrested for allegedly threatening a senior government official and his family.
The incident began when Musakhel reportedly visited the office of Lal Jan Jafar, the Secretary of Communications and Works (C&W). According to the official’s complaint, the JUI leader verbally abused him and threatened him with serious consequences.
Later the same day, a group of 5-6 men, allegedly associated with the former minister, went to Jafar’s residence. The group is accused of threatening and harassing the official’s family members. As they left, they wrote threatening messages on the door and walls of the house, which the secretary states poses a direct threat to his and his family’s lives.
Based on these complaints, two separate police stations have taken action. The Civil Lines Police Station registered a case against Musakhel under various charges, including criminal intimidation and obstructing a public servant from doing their duty. The Airport Police Station also filed a separate FIR.
The police have arrested former minister Musakhel and an investigation is now underway.
