JI claims success in talks with govt on Balochistan issues

QUETTA: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Deputy Emir Liaqat Baloch has announced that negotiations with the government regarding Balochistan’s issues have succeeded.

He made the remarks during a joint press conference with JI Balochistan Emir Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman.

Liaqat Baloch stated that the government did not reject any of their demands. “We discussed Balochistan’s problems during the negotiations, and we firmly believe the people of Balochistan are patriotic,” he said.

He emphasized that the Constitution, democracy, and the state must resolve issues through political struggle and peaceful resistance.

Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman said they began their journey from Quetta to Islamabad to press for their demands. “The purpose of the peaceful long march was never confrontation or conflict — we believe in democracy,” he affirmed.

He added that they raised key issues with the government, including minerals, employment, and law and order. “If the government spends Rs. 83 billion on Balochistan, then peace must follow,” he asserted. He also mentioned discussions around check posts, border areas, and other local grievances.
