Islamabad: Actions against police personnel riding motorcycles without helmets

ISLAMABAD: The law enforcement authorities in the federal capital have intensified enforcement actions against police officers found riding motorcycles without helmets, reinforcing the principle of equal application of the law.

In this regard, traffic officials confirmed that disciplinary measures are being taken without exception, focusing on accountability within law enforcement ranks.

Chief Traffic Officer Muhammad Sarfraz Warraich stated that during the past 24 hours, more than 25 police personnel were issued challan tickets for violating helmet safety regulations.

He noted that the campaign is part of a broader effort to ensure road safety and uphold traffic laws uniformly across all segments of society.

“The law is equal for everyone and will be enforced accordingly,” the Chief Traffic Officer said. He further stressed that no individual, regardless of their position or authority, would be exempt from compliance with traffic regulations.

The move has been described as a step toward strengthening public trust and demonstrating institutional responsibility.

In this sense, the officials mentioned that helmet use is a critical safety measure designed to reduce the risk of serious injuries in road accidents. By targeting violations within the police force itself, authorities aim to set a strong example for the public and encourage wider adherence to safety standards.

In addition to issuing fines, the traffic department has announced stricter penalties for repeat violations. According to the Chief Traffic Officer, any police officer found riding a motorcycle without a helmet in the future will not only face a challan but may also have their motorcycle impounded.

The ongoing crackdown reflects a zero-tolerance policy toward traffic violations and aligns with broader road safety initiatives in the capital. Citizens have generally welcomed the action, viewing it as a positive step toward fairness and improved law enforcement practices.
