Flood Situation is Under Control: Balochistan Irrigation Minister

QUETTA: Balochistan’s Irrigation Minister, Sadiq Umrani, has stated that the flood situation in the Indus River is under control and there is no threat of flooding in Balochistan.

He explained that a flow of 800,000 to 1,000,000 cusecs of water will pass through Guddu Barrage without creating a risk for the province.

The minister further assured that Sindh will not cut the protective embankments leading toward Balochistan without prior approval.

He added that both the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and the Irrigation Department have already completed necessary arrangements to deal with any potential flood emergency.

On the other hand, During the Balochistan Assembly session, Provincial Livestock Minister Faisal Jamali expressed concern over floodwaters heading toward Guddu, warning that the Naseerabad Division could come under threat.

He urged that officials from all relevant departments provide a detailed briefing on the matter and emphasized the need for constant coordination with the Sindh government regarding the evolving flood situation.

Jamali further stressed that all departments should remain in close contact with the Irrigation Department.

He added that, according to current updates, the situation remains normal.

Responding to these concerns, Provincial Finance Minister Shoaib Nosherwani stated that a PDMA team has already been deployed in Naseerabad and assured that officials would coordinate to address the apprehensions raised by the livestock minister.

On the occasion, MPA Muhammad Khan Lehri pointed out that while warnings of floods are being issued, people in his constituency are facing severe water shortages in the Pat Feeder Canal.
