Irrigation department on alert amid flood threats in Balochistan

QUETTA: In anticipation of possible flooding in Balochistan, the Irrigation Department has sprung into action.

Chief Engineer Canals, Nasir Majeed, visited different sections of the Pat Feeder Canal, where he inspected flood emergency control rooms and the availability of flood-fighting materials, while also issuing directives for further arrangements.

During the visit, Superintendent Engineer Ghulam Sarwar Bangulzai and other officials briefed him on protective measures and issues related to water distribution.

Nasir Majeed stated that floodwaters coming from Punjab are expected to reach Panjnad on September 2 and Guddu on September 4.

For this purpose, flood control rooms have been established, with machinery and staff placed on high alert.

He emphasized that precautionary measures are being taken in light of the 2010 floods to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property.

Later, he also reviewed water distribution at Qadi Shakh and directed the concerned departments to extend full cooperation.
