WASHINGTON: US officials have stated that the United States and Israel have temporarily removed two senior Iranian officials from their target list in light of possible peace negotiations.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the officials include Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, whose names have been removed from the list for 4 to 5 days.
The report suggests that this step was taken to create space for high-level negotiations aimed at ending the conflict, an effort linked to former US President Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, countries including Turkey, Pakistan, and Egypt are attempting to mediate between the US and Iran to bring both sides to immediate talks and achieve a ceasefire, which could lead to further negotiations.
However, officials believe that major differences between US and Iranian demands make the chances of successful talks quite low.
