MOSCOW: Russia has called on the United States to move away from issuing ultimatums to Iran and instead adopt a more constructive and diplomatic approach to ease rising tensions in the region.
In this regard, as per the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi to discuss the evolving regional situation.
During the discussion, Lavrov stressed that dialogue remains essential for improving current conditions and cautioned against any actions that could undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Lavrov focused on that meaningful progress can only be achieved through sustained negotiations and mutual understanding. He urged all parties to exercise restraint and act responsibly, mentioning the importance of prioritizing peace and regional stability over confrontation.
He also made it clear that Washington should reconsider its reliance on pressure tactics and instead engage in serious diplomacy to address concerns related to Iran.
In this regard, Lavrov noted that coercive measures are unlikely to produce positive results and may further complicate an already fragile geopolitical environment.
He called for practical steps aimed at de-escalation and fostering conditions conducive to constructive dialogue.
Meanwhile, China has also expressed concern over increasing tensions. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held discussions with Lavrov, during which both sides exchanged views on recent developments and underscored the need for coordinated international efforts to maintain regional stability.
Wang Yi mentioned the importance of safeguarding critical maritime routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, which remains vital for global trade and energy supplies.
He noted that ensuring the security of such waterways depends largely on achieving a ceasefire and reducing hostilities in the region.
