Washington: US President Donald Trump has welcomed Iran’s decision to open the Strait of Hormuz, saying it has removed another major obstacle in the Iran-US agreement.
According to American media reports, the United States will release $20 billion in frozen Iranian assets under the nuclear deal.
In return, Iran has agreed to halt uranium enrichment once the funds are released.
Iran had initially demanded the release of $27 billion, but the US rejected this figure.
Negotiations on a three-page agreement are continuing.
Under the deal, the US has insisted that Iran keep all its nuclear facilities above ground.
Iran had earlier rejected a US demand to transfer its nuclear sites to American control.
Meanwhile, Arab media reported that Iranian oil tankers have begun passing through the Gulf for the first time since the imposition of US sanctions.
