Iran signals openness to reduce tensions via Oman

WEB DESK: In a significant diplomatic development amid escalating military conflict, Oman has stated that Iran has expressed a willingness to make serious efforts to reduce tensions. According to the Omani Foreign Ministry, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi conveyed to his Omani counterpart in a telephone conversation that Tehran is “ready for serious efforts” to de-escalate the situation and is “calling for peace” .

The outreach comes through Oman, which has historically served as a critical mediator between Washington and Tehran. Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi affirmed his country’s continued call for a ceasefire and a return to dialogue . This diplomatic signal was issued just as the conflict, which began with major US-Israeli strikes, expanded dramatically over the weekend.

Despite the diplomatic overture, the military situation on the ground remains volatile. US President Donald Trump announced on social media that US forces have “destroyed and sunk 9 Iranian Naval Ships, some of them relatively large and important,” claiming that the Iranian navy’s headquarters has been “largely destroyed” . In a characteristically stark warning, Trump stated that the remaining Iranian warships “will soon be floating at the bottom of the sea” .
