Iran-Linked Cyber Groups Hack Israeli Security Cameras Amid Ongoing Conflict

Israel’s National Cyber Directorate has reported that cyber groups linked to Iran have successfully hacked at least 50 security cameras across Israel since the beginning of the ongoing conflict.

The development highlights growing concerns over cyber warfare and the increasing use of digital tools to gather intelligence during military escalations.

The compromised cameras were located in various parts of the country. The primary objective of the cyber intrusions appears to have been monitoring the impact of Iranian missile strikes and tracking the movement of Israeli military forces.

However, authorities have not confirmed how long the attackers were able to access and utilize these surveillance systems.

In this regard, the Wall Street Journal suggests that the breaches were part of a broader effort by Iran-aligned groups to enhance their situational awareness in real time.

In addition to targeting surveillance infrastructure, the National Cyber Directorate stated that at least 60 Israeli companies and institutions were also affected.

In these cases, attackers infiltrated internal systems and erased critical data, causing operational disruptions and raising concerns about data security and resilience.

Rafael Franco, former Deputy Director General of the Directorate, noted that at least three separate cyber groups were involved in these activities.

He explained that the attackers not only gained unauthorized access but also carried out destructive actions, including wiping data from compromised systems.

This suggests a deliberate attempt to inflict both intelligence and operational damage.
