Iran has established a three-member interim council to ensure continuity in governance during the transitional period. The development was confirmed by Iranian state media.
Iranian state television officially confirmed the martyrdom of Ali Shamkhani and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Commander Pakpour.
The announcements were made in a formal broadcast, expressing condolences and acknowledging their services to the nation.
The interim council has been constituted in accordance with constitutional provisions that come into effect if the position of the Supreme Leader becomes vacant or non-functional.
The newly formed council comprises the President, the Chief Justice, and a jurist member of the Guardian Council.
The decision was taken under established constitutional mechanisms designed to maintain institutional stability and prevent any governance vacuum.
The council will assume all responsibilities related to leadership affairs during the interim period.
The council system is clearly defined to address exceptional circumstances involving the Supreme Leader’s office. The arrangement ensures that executive, judicial, and religious-legal representation remains balanced during the transition.
The President represents the executive branch, the Chief Justice oversees judicial matters, and the selected jurist from the Guardian Council provides constitutional and religious guidance.
Iranian media further reported that the interim council will perform all necessary duties until the process for selecting a new Supreme Leader is completed.
The formation of the interim council underscores Iran’s adherence to its constitutional structure during periods of national significance.
