ISLAMABAD: A heated meeting of the PTI’s opposition parliamentary party at the KP House in Islamabad has exposed significant internal tensions, centering on strategy, social media harassment, and access to the party’s incarcerated founder.
The session turned confrontational when Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly, Moin Riaz Qureshi, expressed fierce anger over what he described as a dual assault on party members. “On one hand, the government and on the other hand, PTI’s social media is humiliating us,” he stated, alleging a “well-thought-out conspiracy” to ridicule and target members online, even when absent due to illness.
His remarks prompted an interruption from senior party leader Sheikh Waqas Akram, who pointedly asked, “Can we all listen or even speak?” This exchange highlighted the simmering frustrations within the ranks. Qureshi defended his position, urging trust in the political committee’s efforts, while Senator Faisal Javed appealed for unity, saying, “the intentions of our people should not be doubted.”،
Further discord emerged over protest strategy. Member Shahid Khattak pushed for a unified march to the Supreme Court, citing denied health facilities and access to the party founder. However, confusion was noted regarding the alignment with other opposition figures like Mahmood Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas, suggesting a lack of coordinated strategy. The meeting concluded without a clear resolution, underscoring the challenges the opposition faces in presenting a united
front.
