India’s Stance Could Distract Pakistan from Anti-Terror efforts: PM Shehbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: In the backdrop of rising tensions with India, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held an important meeting with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, during which China reaffirmed its steadfast support for Pakistan.

The prime minister conveyed his sincere greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, expressing gratitude for China’s unwavering backing amid the ongoing regional situation.

Highlighting growing concerns, Shehbaz Sharif cautioned that India’s confrontational posture could divert Pakistan’s focus from critical counterterrorism operations against TTP and BLA militants, who continue to operate from Afghan soil.

He also strongly criticized India’s alleged attempt to use water as a weapon, calling it a blatant violation of international norms.

He reiterated that the Indus Waters Treaty cannot be unilaterally disregarded by any party.

Emphasizing the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir, the prime minister stated that a peaceful and just resolution to the longstanding dispute is essential for lasting peace and stability in South Asia.

Ambassador Jiang Zaidong praised Pakistan’s principled stance and acknowledged the prime minister’s efforts in presenting the facts clearly.

He assured that China will continue to stand by Pakistan in its pursuit of regional peace and stability.

Earlier, In light of the recent Pahalgam attack and the escalating tensions with India, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a crucial meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr to review the prevailing national security situation.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar also attended the high-level meeting.

The leadership expressed serious concern over India’s aggressive posture and provocative statements following the incident.

According to a statement issued from the President House, India’s behavior poses a threat to regional peace and stability.

It affirmed that Pakistan will never compromise on its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and is fully capable of responding to any form of aggression with force.

The meeting reviewed potential scenarios and Pakistan’s response strategy in the face of possible Indian hostilities.

The leaders strongly condemned the baseless allegations made by Indian authorities without any investigation and noted that Pakistan has suffered from terrorism for over two decades, enduring immense human and economic losses.

They called on the international community to take notice of India’s involvement in funding and training militants for terrorist activities inside Pakistan.

President Zardari appreciated the government’s responsible and measured response to Indian provocations and emphasized that Pakistan will take all necessary steps to safeguard its sovereignty, regional integrity, and vital national interests at all costs.
