India’s Key Player Injured Ahead of T20 World Cup

NEW DELHI: Indian cricketer Tilak Varma has been ruled out of the first three matches of the five-match T20 International series against New Zealand.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said Varma underwent testicular surgery in Rajkot on Wednesday. Doctors have advised him to rest.

The board said a decision on his availability for the remaining two matches will be taken after he returns to training and completes fitness assessments.

Varma played for Hyderabad against Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Tuesday. Reports said he did not suffer any injury during the match.

He later complained of pain and underwent immediate medical scans. Doctors then recommended surgery.

The BCCI said Varma is recovering and remains under medical observation.
