ISLAMABAD: Social media accounts linked to Indian proxies and the internationally designated terrorist group Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) have been caught recycling old footage to spread disinformation about Balochistan.
The Claim
On August 25, 2024, a social media account named Fatima Baloch, associated with BLA posted a video claiming that “Baloch Sarmachars (term they used for BLA terrorists) have set up checkpoints in the province.”
The same clip was later shared by another BLA-affiliated activist, who alleged that insurgents were blocking roads and checking vehicles in Mastung district’s Kadkocha and Dasht areas.
The Fact
The Burak Baloch Fact Check wing investigated the video and traced it back to July 26, 2024, when the same Fatima account had first circulated it.
Independent verification confirms the footage is not current and was deliberately reshared with a false date.
There is no evidence of insurgent checkpoints operating in Mastung or the Dasht area on the mentioned date.
The Intent Behind the Misinformation
Analysts note the recycled content was used to:
Inflate the presence of BLA terrorists in Balochistan.
Create panic among the public by presenting outdated video as fresh evidence.
Promote separatist propaganda aligned with Indian proxy networks and the banned BLA.
Conclusion
The viral video is misleading. It is a year-old clip reused to manufacture a false narrative of militant control in Balochistan. The incident highlights how separatist and proxy-linked accounts manipulate old media to spread disinformation and amplify anti-state propaganda.
