Coach arrested for rape allegation by Indian Athlete

NEW DELHI: A serious new case of harassment involving a female athlete has emerged in India, where national shooting team coach Ankush Bhardwaj has been arrested on charges of rape.

According to Indian media reports, a 17-year-old national-level shooter has accused her coach of sexual assault.

The victim stated that the alleged incident took place during a performance evaluation session related to a shooting event.

Following the incident, the athlete’s family filed a detailed complaint with the police.

Authorities registered an FIR and initiated legal proceedings in accordance with the law.

In response to the gravity of the allegations, the National Rifle Association of India has taken immediate action by suspending coach Ankush Bhardwaj from his position pending further investigation.

Assault and harassment by coaches against female players is a grave violation of trust, ethics, and human rights.

Coaches hold positions of authority meant to guide, protect, and develop athletes, not exploit them.

Any form of abuse physical, sexual, or psychological must be met with zero tolerance, strict legal action, and institutional accountability.

Creating safe reporting mechanisms, ensuring transparency, and prioritizing athlete welfare are essential to protecting players and preserving the integrity of sports.
