ISLAMABAD: Relations between India and the United States have sunk to their lowest level during US President Donald Trump’s second term, the Financial Times reported.
The British newspaper said growing coldness between the two countries has directly affected India’s economy, foreign policy, and major business groups.
The report said the Modi government’s Hindutva-driven domestic policies and inconsistent foreign strategy have weakened ties with Washington.
It said the fallout has hit India’s powerful billionaires the hardest. Despite heavy investments, they have failed to secure commercial and legal leverage in the United States.
According to the Financial Times, Indian tycoons spent millions of dollars on lobbying firms. The effort, however, failed to influence US policy or the American legal system.
Ongoing legal cases against billionaire Gautam Adani show that personal ties and lobbying cannot override US legal priorities, the report said.
The newspaper added that regional tensions and India’s recent policy choices have led Washington to view New Delhi as a less reliable partner in managing regional affairs.

It said contact between Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi remained minimal during a tariff dispute between the two countries.
