NEW DELHI: Although the Indian government has repeatedly denied any US role in defusing the four-day India-Pakistan tension following the May 2025 Pahalgam incident. The Indian largest media house ‘The Hindu’, however, rejected the Modi’s regime claims and exposed its begging from the Trump administration.
According to the report, an American lobbying firm, SHW LLC, appointed by India, contacted US officials on May 10, 2025, and in subsequent days. The firm operates under Jason Miller, a close aide to then-President Donald Trump.
Documents filed under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) with the US Department of Justice revealed 60 entries in December 2025. The filings do not specify whether the May 10 contacts occurred before or after the ceasefire, but they indicate active diplomatic engagement on that day.
The report said India’s embassy, through the lobbying firm, contacted White House Chief of Staff Suzie Wiles, US Trade Representative Jameson Greer, and National Security Council official Riki Gill. Discussions focused on media coverage of the conflict and related issues.
The revelations appear to contradict India’s official position, which denies that President Trump threatened trade restrictions or that NSC aide Riki Gill received instructions to de-escalate the crisis. The report highlighted that communication with the US Trade Representative regarding Operation Sandur was particularly significant.
The FARA filings also claim that SHW LLC arranged meetings for Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Deputy National Security Advisor Ponnampalam Kapoor, and US Ambassador Vinay Kwatra with senior Trump administration officials.
The firm was hired by India’s embassy on April 24, 2025. The contract set a monthly fee of $150,000 and an annual total of $1.8 million. To date, $900,000 has been paid. According to The Hindu, the firm had no other clients during this period.
Former and current Indian diplomats said it was the first time a lobbying firm was given direct authority to schedule meetings and official calls with US officials. Normally, such contacts are handled by the diplomatic mission itself.
The Indian embassy in Washington said it has engaged lobbying firms in compliance with US law since the 1950s. One official noted that lobbying firms usually provide advice and assess the environment, not arrange direct government interactions.
The firm operates under Jason Miller, a close aide to President Trump.
The report noted that tensions rose after the US imposed 25 percent retaliatory tariffs on India and an additional 25 percent penalty on Russian oil imports. Calls to the White House and trade officials increased significantly.

Ties improved later when Trump and Prime Minister Modi exchanged friendly messages on social media. The lobbying firm reportedly conveyed these messages to US officials. In September 2025, Trump also called Modi on his birthday, initiating further personal communications between the leaders.
