ISLAMABAD: The Federal Constitutional Court on Wednesday heard a petition challenging the formation of the “Imran Khan Release Force” by the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi.
The Constitutional Court summoned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to submit a response within 10 days.
A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan, conducted the hearing. The court issued a notice directing the government to clarify its position.
The petitioner’s lawyer argued that the formation of the force could violate legal and constitutional limits. He presented documents, evidence, and media reports related to threats.
During the hearing, the court asked whether the cabinet had approved the creation of such a force. The petitioner’s lawyer said the cabinet had given no such permission.
The court remarked that the federal government must ensure no violations occur. The Chief Justice said serious legal questions arise regarding the formation of a force for convicted individuals.
