ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court seeking suspension of his sentence and release on bail in the Toshakhana-II case.
Lawyers Barrister Salman Safdar and Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry submitted the plea, asking the court to suspend Khan’s conviction and grant him bail.
The legal team also filed a separate application requesting early hearing of a similar plea for suspension of sentence in the £190 million case.
In the petition, Khan’s lawyers argued that suspension of sentence in the Toshakhana-II case is justified on merit and medical grounds. They said Khan suffers from a serious condition in his right eye.
The application stated that Dr. Muhammad Arif at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences diagnosed the condition. The doctor reported that Khan’s right eye has been severely affected and that his vision has deteriorated to 15 percent. The petition argued that adequate treatment is not possible inside prison.
The lawyers also sought bail for the 73-year-old former premier.
