KABUL: The iIllegal cross-border movement and the expansion of militant networks originating from Afghanistan are increasingly being viewed as serious threats to the internal security of countries across the region.
The several governments have expressed growing concern over instability linked to Afghan territory and the rise in unauthorized migration. In this regard, an Iranian news outlet, multiple Afghan nationals were killed while attempting to enter Iran illegally through the Iran–Afghanistan border.
The report stated that following the incident, the bodies of 15 Afghan migrants were transferred to the Kohsan and Adraskan districts. Moreover, the separate reports also indicated that a total of 40 people may have lost their lives along the border, while several others remain missing.
Whereas the Iranian media reported that the migrants were attempting to cross into Iran through the Islam Qala border area.
One of the senior Iranian border commanders said that attempts by Afghan nationals to enter Iran illegally had doubled by October this year compared to the same period last year, highlighting the growing pressure on border security forces.
The situation has also drawn attention to broader migration trends. Iranian authorities stated that more than 1.6 million Afghan migrants and refugees have been deported from Iran so far this year.
In addition to migration concerns, Iranian officials have raised security-related allegations. According to Iranian authorities, during a recent 12-day conflict, some Afghan nationals were reportedly found to be involved in espionage activities for Israel.
These claims have further heightened security sensitivities surrounding unauthorized migration and border management. Meanwhile, Caspian News, an international broadcaster, reported that Iran has decided to complete a 300-kilometer-long border fence this year in response to increasing security challenges.
Iranian officials said the fencing project aims to curb illegal crossings, smuggling, and potential infiltration by criminal or militant elements.
Pakistan has repeatedly raised the issue at international forums, stating that it has shared evidence with the global community regarding the use of Afghan soil by terrorist networks.
