LAKKI MARWAT: The improvised explosive device (IED) explosion occurred near Baist Khel Gate in the Bettani Sub-Division of Lakki Marwat, targeting the vehicle of the Additional Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Warr Gari Bettani.
The explosive device was planted along the roadside and detonated as the police vehicle passed the area.
The blast caused damage to the vehicle, but fortunately, no casualties were reported. All police personnel onboard, including the Additional SHO, remained unharmed.
In this sense, the law enforcement officials immediately cordoned off the site following the explosion and launched a search operation to trace the perpetrators.
The bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) teams were also dispatched to the scene to collect evidence and assess the nature and quantity of explosives used in the attack.
Furthermore, the preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was aimed at targeting security personnel operating in the area as part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order.
In addition, a senior police official, while speaking on condition of anonymity, said that strict security measures have been implemented across the Bettani Sub-Division to prevent similar incidents.
The local witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion, followed by heavy police deployment in the vicinity.
The incident caused temporary panic among nearby villagers, but normalcy was gradually restored after security forces cleared the area.
The district police have registered a case and initiated a formal investigation. The efforts are underway to track down those responsible for planting the device.
The Bettani region of Lakki Marwat, which borders tribal districts, has witnessed sporadic militant activities in the past.
