Dubai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has convened an emergency meeting following Pakistan’s refusal to play the scheduled match against India in the T20 World Cup.
According to reports in Indian media, the ICC has called an urgent virtual session in response to Pakistan’s decision to boycott the World Cup match against India.
All member cricket boards are expected to participate in the meeting.
It is pertinent to note that yesterday, after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued its statement, the ICC released an official response appealing to the PCB to reconsider its decision.
In its statement, the ICC said it respects governmental decisions but emphasized that this move will affect cricket fans not only in Pakistan but across the world.
The ICC described the boycott as contrary to the true spirit of cricket and warned that it would have far-reaching negative consequences for the game.
The ICC expressed hope that the Pakistan Cricket Board would review its stance and stated that it awaits a response from the PCB on the matter.
