NEW DELHI: Indian media claims ICC could impose severe sanctions on Pakistan if it boycotts the T20 World Cup
According to reports in Indian media, the International Cricket Council (ICC) may take strict action against Pakistan if the country decides to withdraw from the 2026 T20 World Cup in support of Bangladesh.
Citing security concerns, the Bangladesh cricket team has already been excluded from the tournament for refusing to play in India. Scotland has been included in the mega event as a replacement.
The media report alleges that the ICC is unhappy with recent comments by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who openly supported Bangladesh’s stance.
Pakistan was reportedly the only board member country to vote in favor of Bangladesh’s position during the recent ICC Board meeting.
The report further claims that the ICC has already taken note of Pakistan’s position and could impose harsh penalties, which may include:
- Suspension of all bilateral series involving Pakistan
- Refusal to issue No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for foreign players to participate in the Pakistan Super League (PSL)
- Exclusion of Pakistan from the Asia Cup
