ISLAMABAD: After the humiliating defeat of India by the Pakistani forces on May 9–10, hundreds of Twitter accounts suddenly appeared using the name “Balochistan”. Upon closer inspections, it was revealed that many of these accounts were previously operated by Indian users.
The digital media experts said that the Twitter accounts using “Balochistan” name initially posted about Indian films, celebrities, and entertainment-related topics but now they have switched to political content, allegedly portraying a false narrative and spreading misinformation about Balochistan province of Pakistan.
Furthermore, experts in strategic communication have suggested that this is a hallmark of hybrid warfare campaign aimed at spreading disinformation, creating confusion. The basic aim of these types of attempts are to spreading misinformation and misrepresenting internal affairs in Balochistan.
Digital experts warn that digital manipulation through social media platforms is becoming an increasingly common tool in hybrid warfare strategies.
Such types of activities raised serious concerns over coordinated online propaganda against Pakistan and particularly Balochistan province. Also, these accounts were found supporting the banned terrorist group BLA and other banned outfits of Balochistan.
According to government sources, the concerned authorities have taken note of the issue and are monitoring such activities as part of national cybersecurity efforts.

Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns at international forums about India’s involvement in spreading fake news about Pakistan’s Balochistan province with the aim to show the world that the situation in the Balochistan province is disturbing, which is totally a lie and baseless propaganda.
