Quetta: In a decisive move to tackle the ongoing water crisis, the Government of Balochistan has officially imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in District Hub, effectively banning the illegal transportation of water from Hub to Karachi for a period of one month with immediate effect.
This action, directed by Additional Chief Secretary (Home Department) Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat, comes in response to reports revealing that over 200 to 300 tankers are daily involved in the unauthorized transport of water from Hub to Karachi.
These operations are being conducted through illegal hydrants installed along the Lasbela Canal, severely impacting the Irrigation Department’s ability to meet water demands for Public Health Engineering (PHE) reservoirs used for drinking and industrial purposes in Hub.
The government has taken serious notice of the situation after it was observed that public and industrial sectors in District Hub are facing acute water shortages.
The Home Department’s official order clearly warns that any violation of this ban will result in strict legal action.
This one-month prohibition is aimed at controlling the illegal siphoning of water resources and ensuring fair and legal distribution, especially during this critical period of water scarcity.
