Petrol Subsidy to be Paid Directly into Bank Accounts

ISLAMABAD: The government has finalized the mechanism for providing targeted subsidy on petrol to citizens.

According to officials of the Ministry of IT, there will be no app or petrol rationing for the subsidy.

The government is obtaining data from Excise and Taxation offices and sending it to the State Bank of Pakistan for direct payments.

Officials said that eligible citizens will receive the subsidy of Rs2,000 directly into their bank accounts linked with their CNIC, based on the Excise and Taxation data.

They further stated that digital wallets have already started making payments.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had directed that all provinces follow a uniform policy.

Measures for motorcycles and farmers will be taken directly by the provinces, while actions for the transport sector — including trucks, buses, and other large vehicles — will be implemented at the national level.

Officials added that similar national-level steps will also be taken for Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir.
