PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police has decided to formulate a comprehensive strategy to prevent the use of mining explosives in terrorist activities after emerging evidence suggested that such materials have been used in a number of recent improvised explosive device (IED) attacks across the province.
In this regard, investigations into recent terrorism-related incidents have revealed indications that mining explosives were utilized in several IED blasts.
The findings have raised serious concerns among law enforcement agencies regarding the illegal diversion and misuse of commercially available explosive materials.
The provincial police have initiated efforts to develop an effective mechanism aimed at curbing the supply and unauthorized use of such materials in terrorist operations.
The initiative is expected to focus on identifying loopholes in existing regulatory frameworks and improving coordination among relevant departments.
These committees will be tasked with conducting a thorough assessment of the situation, gathering intelligence, and recommending practical steps to prevent explosives from falling into the hands of militant groups.
In this sense, the authorities further noted that the committees will also review other potential sources of explosive materials that could be exploited by terrorists.
The assessment will help law enforcement agencies develop a broader understanding of the supply chains and networks that may facilitate the procurement of such materials.
The move comes amid ongoing security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where authorities continue to face threats posed by militant activities and cross-border security concerns.
