Honor killing claims lives of couple seven years after love marriage

QUETTA: A pregnant woman and her husband were murdered in the name of honor, seven years after their love marriage, in Mastung district of Balochistan.

Levies officials confirmed that the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday morning in the Lakpass area of Mastung.

SHO Pir Jan Alizai of Levies told local media outlet that deceased were identified as Mohammad Shoaib, a resident of Chatkan area of Panjgur, and his wife Benazir, originally from Hazar Ganji area of Provincial capital.

The couple had eloped and solemnized their marriage in court about seven years ago. However recently, Shoaib had reportedly reached a settlement with his in-laws.

According to reports, Benazir’s brothers invited the couple to Quetta for a supposed family dinner. Shoaib, his wife, and his brother traveled from Panjgur toward Quetta but decided to spend the night at a roadside hotel in Lakpass due to nightfall.

The next morning, the accused opened fire at the couple, killing both husband and wife on the spot before fleeing the scene.

The Levies official confirmed that Benazir was pregnant at the time of her death. The couple also leaves behind two young children.

A murder case has been registered against the victim’s brothers, and Levies forces have launched a search operation to arrest the suspects.
