QUETTA : The Balochistan Home Department has issued a province-wide high alert, ordering security forces to tighten protection for members of the provincial and national assemblies, with a specific focus on five key political figures who are facing a serious threat.
According to an official letter issued by the Home Department, intelligence reports indicate that terrorist elements are planning to target legislators. The alert names five leaders who are at the top of the threat list: Opposition Leader Mir Younis Zehri, Asghar Khan Tareen, Zabid Reki, Maulana Abdul Wasi, and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri.
The directive has been sent to all Commissioners, District Police Officers (DPOs), and the Inspector General of the Frontier Corps (FC) in the province. Authorities have been instructed to conduct an immediate security audit of the nominated members, their residences, and offices.
“Provide adequate security cover according to the threat level, and increase surveillance patrols and intelligence coordination in the relevant areas,” the Home Department letter stated. It further emphasized the need for maintaining close coordination with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and the Special Branch. Security forces have been ordered to ensure an immediate response to any suspicious movement.
The Home Department has described the situation as “extremely important and urgent” and has directed all concerned officers to keep them informed of the progress on security measures. The heightened alert underscores the volatile security situation in the province, which has recently seen a surge in militant activity
