ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a 13-member committee to find a permanent solution to Gwadar’s chronic power outages and water shortages. The committee’s first meeting is expected on Friday.
According to a notification, the committee has been tasked with discussing the issues and submitting a report to the Prime Minister immediately after the meeting for his review and decision.
It will propose an urgent plan to ensure an uninterrupted water supply to Gwadar through the 7.5 MGD Water Supply Scheme and the 1.2 MGD desalination plant. The plan must be feasible within four to five days. The body will also suggest a medium-term solution to secure an uninterrupted power and water supply for the district within four to five months.
The notification directs the committee to assign clear responsibilities to ministers and implementing agencies for both projects, with strict timelines.

Members include Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, federal ministers for Maritime Affairs and Energy, the federal secretaries for Planning, Maritime Affairs, and Energy (Power Division), the Balochistan Chief Secretary, chairmen of the Gwadar Port Authority and Gwadar Development Authority, QESCO Chief Executive Officer Umar Cheema, and former Sky Electric CEO Ameen Sukhaira.
