Heavy rainfall forecasted in December across Balochistan

QUETTA: Residents of drought-affected districts of Balochistan have been given hope of much-needed relief as the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast widespread and prolonged rainfall for the month of December.

According to meteorological experts, a strong system of western winds is expected to enter the province between December 6 and December 10, triggering the first major spell of rain accompanied by thunderstorms.

This weather pattern is likely to continue intermittently throughout the month.

The weather department further stated that a clear improvement in drought conditions is expected across many parts of Balochistan from the beginning of December.

The powerful western weather system is predicted to bring heavy and sustained rainfall, marking the start of a long-wet phase.

The announcement has been welcomed by residents of arid regions, including Quetta, where water scarcity has remained a serious concern for months.

Recent rainfall across Balochistan has brought much-needed relief to residents after a long period of dry weather and worsening drought conditions.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, a strong western weather system triggered widespread rain and thunderstorms in several districts, including Quetta and surrounding areas.

The showers have improved air quality, lowered temperatures, and increased moisture levels in the soil, providing hope for farmers and livestock owners.

Experts say the recent rains are likely to ease water shortages and support winter crop cultivation in rain-fed regions.

However, authorities have advised citizens to remain cautious due to the risk of flash flooding in low-lying and hilly areas.

While the rainfall has been welcomed across the province, disaster management teams remain on alert to handle any emergency situations caused by sudden heavy downpours.
