  NDMA Alerts for heavy rain & snow in multiple areas

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for rain in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir, along with snowfall in northern areas.

According to the spokesperson, scattered to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is expected in various regions over the next 12 to 24 hours.

There is also a risk of snowfall in northern areas and potential landslides.

In Azad Kashmir, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and thunder is expected in Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Bagh, Haveli, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, rain is likely in Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, Ghizer, Diamer, Ghanche, Shigar, and Nagar, while snowfall is anticipated in higher elevations.

Rain is forecasted in various parts of Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Chakwal, Jhelum, Attock, Murree, Bhakkar, Khushab, and Mianwali.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain with thunder and lightning is expected in Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Kohat, Hangu, Bannu, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Battagram, Kohistan, Swat, Malakand, Shangla, and Chitral, with snowfall possible in mountainous areas.

Scattered rain with thunder and strong winds is also expected in parts of Sindh over the next 12–24 hours, including Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Jamshoro, Dadu, Khairpur, Mirpurkhas, Mithi, Umerkot, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Karachi (with intermittent showers).

In Balochistan, rain with gusty winds and thunder is likely in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Qilla Saifullah, Qilla Abdullah, Pishin, Barkhan, Sibi, Dera Bugti, Khuzdar, Awaran, Turbat, and Gwadar.

According to NDMA, the expected rainfall may trigger landslides in Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan, as well as glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in Gilgit-Baltistan. A specific landslide alert has been issued for Ziarat, Harnai, Sibi, Musakhel, Sherani, and Loralai in Balochistan.

Landslides may affect traffic on National Highways N-50, N-65, and N-70, while low-lying areas could experience water accumulation and disrupted traffic flow.

NDMA has directed all provincial and district authorities to remain on high alert to deal with the possible weather situation.

The public is advised to avoid unnecessary travel and take precautionary measures in landslide-prone areas.

NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center is continuously monitoring the situation and providing timely updates to the public and relevant agencies.
