London: In a significant legal setback, the UK Court of Appeal (or High Court in related proceedings) has dismissed YouTuber and former Pakistan Army Major (retd) Adil Raja‘s appeal in a high-profile defamation case brought by retired Brigadier Rashid Naseer.
The court upheld the earlier High Court ruling from October 2025, which found Adil Raja’s allegations against Brigadier (retd) Naseer — a former ISI officer — to be false, baseless, malicious, and defamatory. Raja’s claims, spread via social media posts and YouTube videos in June 2022, accused Naseer of political interference, corruption, and other misconduct without credible evidence.
Key outcomes from the proceedings include:
- Raja labeled a professional liar in court, with his so-called “investigative journalism” and reliance on anonymous “sources” thoroughly discredited.
- When pressed for proof, Raja reportedly struggled to respond, leading to his defenses (including truth and public interest under the Defamation Act 2013) being rejected.
- The court described his accusations as made in bad faith and dismissed claims of political victimization or martyrdom.
As a result, Raja faces a substantial financial penalty of approximately £350,000 (around PKR 12 crore), covering damages (£50,000), interim legal costs (£260,000+), and further assessed expenses — payable by deadlines set in prior orders (e.g., December 2025 extensions now enforced).
Additional orders require Raja to:
- Publish a court-approved public apology/summary of the judgment on his YouTube, X (Twitter), Facebook, and website for 28 days.
- Comply with an injunction barring repetition of the defamatory statements.
With the appeal denied, Raja’s legal avenues appear exhausted or severely limited. The case serves as a stark warning to YouTubers and online commentators who monetize unverified or false narratives, highlighting that the “business of lies” ultimately carries a heavy price in reputable judicial systems.
No immediate comment from Adil Raja on the latest development was available, though he has previously indicated intentions to pursue further appeals despite repeated rejections.
